How do I enrol my child at Huili Nantong?

Huili Nantong strictly follows the guidelines and regulations set forth by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. Before the application process begins, parents can submit a data collection form, and we will be in touch shortly.

Curriculum

#3

Which curriculum does Huili Nantong use?

Huili Nantong uses the curriculum and teaching materials set forth by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education will be used for relevant subjects for our Primary and Junior High pupils. We will augment this by also drawing on the best of Western education, particularly with regard to the soft skills needed for the 21st century, such as communication, collaboration and critical thinking.

#4

Huili Nantong is a bilingual school, what level of English competency must my children acquire in order to enrol there?

At Wellington College China, we define ‘bilingualism’ as the ability to make a seamless transition between the two languages of instruction. A bilingual person can read, write, understand, think and speak in the two languages without hindrance at all levels.

We will require all children to have an age-appropriate basic level of English. For a child starting Huili in grade 1 with a basic level of English and a limited amount of exposure to English outside of school, it would be reasonable to expect them to be proficient in English by the end of primary school and bilingual by the end of Junior High.

#5

What special classes and programmes does the school offer?

Lessons at Huili Nantong follow the requirements set out by the Chinese National Curriculum and are enquiry-based with a focus on improving pupils’ understanding. In addition to regular courses like Chinese, English, mathematics, science, Chinese social studies (encompassing history and geography), music, sports and art, pupils also learn distinctive Huili courses, such as theme, wellbeing, drama, English social studies, swimming, design & technology, etc. Apart from Mandarin and Chinese social studies, all classes will be delivered bilingually or fully in English.

We will also provide a wide range of school-based afternoon courses as part of our co-curricular activities programme. These may include activities such as Lego, robotics, debate, English drama, kayaking, archery, pop band and orchestra. These courses are an important part of the school experience and integral to our holistic educational offering. As such, children are expected to take part in afternoon sessions to broaden their horizons and increase their interests.

Teachers

#6

How does Huili Nantong ensure its teacher quality?

Our teachers will be passionate educators from all over the world. They will all have appropriate teaching qualifications and rich teaching experiences.

Our English-speaking teachers will come mostly from Britain or native English-speaking countries, some will also have experience in Chinese schools. Our Chinese teachers will come from a range of interesting backgrounds, including international and bilingual schools from all over China as well as schools within the Wellington College China family.
