Believe it or not, Silk Mandarin's lobby is a fantastic place to practice your Chinese.

There are a lot of stories and gossips going on at Silk Mandarin's lobby every day. Today, We recorded this conversation between Mitch and Xinyi. Let's check out what happened to Mitch when he just arrived in Shanghai. 

Mitch: a student from Australia who has learnt Chinese with Silk Mandarin for 4 months

Xinyi: Mitch's teacher and friend in Silk Mandarin 

M: Hello!

X: Who are you?

M: I'm Mitch. You can also call me "goudan"(a vulgar kid's nickname in rural area)

X: Why do I call you "goudan"?

M: My Chinese friends in Australia gave this name to me.

X: Why did they give you this name???

M: Because they think this name suits my attitude. (?!)

X: When did you come to China?

M: I came to China about one year ago.

X: Have you had some story here?

M: My friend took me to a hotpot restaurant in my first week in Shanghai. He ordered numb spicy hotpot and invited me to eat but he didn't tell me that I shouldn't drink the soup. So  I started to feel unwell right after I drank the soup. My face sweat and my stomach started to feel upset.

Then I asked the waiter if he can give me a straw but he gave me watermelon when he came back.

X: Straw! He misheard what you said?!

M: This is my first time speaking Chinese in China.

X: Very good!

M: Not really good...

X: But it's very interesting!
