YCIS 30^th Anniversary in Shanghai,

 90 Years in Hong Kong  

The first Yew Chung School was established in 1932 by our founder, Madam Tsang Chor-hang, with a mission of making China stronger through education. At the time, the growing prominence of China in a global context saw educators acknowledging that "International" is not defined as "Western".

The opening of Yew Chung International School of Shanghai in 1993, is what is currently our Hongqiao Campus. It was the first independent international school in Shanghai officially recognised by and registered with the Chinese government and later joined by four other campuses in Puxi and Pudong.

YCIS Shanghai is a fully-accredited school, recognised by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS) and is the only school in China to have received the Cambridge Award for Excellence in Education. 

International Curriculum

The school's unique multicultural and bilingual approach to education is recognised worldwide and helps distinguish our students in a globally competitive environment.  To cultivate this cultural experience for our students, our campuses are led jointly by two Co-Principals, one international and one Chinese. This system is mirrored in our Early Childhood and Primary classrooms with our unique Co-Teaching model, which supports the development of our students' bilingual and cross-cultural skills. 

Academics

Our students have always maintained academic excellence and we are exceptionally proud of how productive, focused, and composed our Class of 2022 has been leading up to their final IBDP, including adding another 45 to the four other perfect scores between 2020-2022. In addition, 50% of our graduates obtained the IB Bilingual Diploma!  

Several YCIS graduates, who share a bond of growing up almost exclusively in China, will join their alumni in the UK at Cambridge and Oxford University, and also across the pond at Johns Hopkins University, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, Berkley School of Music, and Parsons School of Design.

Sport and Academic Competitions

Our accolades go beyond the classrooms as we have set gold standards in CISSA, SISAC, and ACAMIS sports organisations. Students on both sides of the river participate in external international math competitions (AMC10, Caribou Cup, SASMO, etc.) claiming top in their age brackets and against peers from all around the world. 

Focus on Values

YCIS students also develop their appreciation for contributing to society by giving back to our community through service learning initiatives. One of the key reason families choose YCIS for their children is the school's commitment to positively guiding each student's morals and values, which will help them make good choices both now and later in life. 

Scholarship Opportunities

Yew Chung Yew Wah Education (YCYW) has inaugurated the Scholarship Programme to recognise and encourage students who have excelled in academics or other fields. It is designed to create opportunities for students of different backgrounds to receive a quality international education.  

Students who received scholarships have demonstrated excellence in different areas, such as being school leaders, role models in the classroom, star athletes on the sports field, passionate musicians, talented writers, and committed to service projects.

All YCIS schools operate under the same educational philosophy, pedagogy, and curriculum. We understand that international families sometimes need to be relocated around China, so we make it very convenient for enrolled students to transfer to any school in our network.
