Schaeffler Greater China inaugurates second R&D center

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On May 18, Schaeffler Greater China inaugurated an new R&D center in Xiangjiang New Area, Changsha city, Hunan province, which is Schaeffler's second R&D base in China following the one located in Anting town, Shanghai city.

The new move represents Schaeffler's commitment to continuously enhancing local R&D capabilities in China and serving local customers and market.

Leveraging the global R&D network and technical expertise of Schaeffler Group, the Changsha R&D Center will closely collaborate with the Anting R&D hub to conduct R&D works in such future-oriented areas as electric drive and intelligent driving, as well as product application development.

"As the second R&D base of Schaeffler Greater China, the Changsha R&D center is an important part of Schaeffler's global R&D network. I believe that it will play an increasingly important role in Schaeffler's development of future-oriented products and technologies," said Uwe Wagner, Chief Technology Officer of Schaeffler Group.

Schaeffler said it has always deemed innovation as a core element for its successful development. As of today, it has established an extensive global R&D network with 20 R&D centers and over 8,000 R&D personnel. It submits nearly 2,000 patents to the German Patent and Trademark Office each year.

Schaeffler continues to strengthen its local R&D capabilities in China. In 2007, Schaeffler’s Anting R&D center was established in Jiading district, Shanghai, with nearly a thousand technical experts now engaged in the full value chain of R&D.

In 2019, Schaeffler signed a cooperation framework agreement with Xiangjiang New Area and established Schaeffler Intelligent Driving Technology (Changsha) Co., Ltd., which has made significant R&D progress in the field of intelligent driving.
