10月18日，中国共产党第十九次全国代表大会在北京人民大会堂隆重开幕。习近平代表第十八届中央委员会向大会作报告。

9、从2020年到本世纪中叶可以分两个阶段来安排 a two-step approach from 2020 to the mid-century.

In the first stage from 2020 to 2035, building on the foundation created by the moderately prosperous society with a further 15 years of hard work, is to see that socialist modernization is basically realized.
第二个阶段，从二〇三五年到本世纪中叶，在基本实现现代化的基础上，再奋斗十五年，把我国建成富强民主文明和谐美丽的社会主义现代化强国。
In the second stage from 2035 to the middle of the 21st century, building on having basically achieved modernization, and working hard for a further 15 years, is to build China into a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful by the middle of the century.

我国经济已由高速增长阶段转向高质量发展阶段，正处在转变发展方式、优化经济结构、转换增长动力的攻关期，建设现代化经济体系是跨越关口的迫切要求和我国发展的战略目标。

The modernization that we pursue is one characterized by harmonious coexistence between man and nature. In addition to creating more material and cultural wealth to meet people's ever-increasing needs for a better life, we need also to provide more quality ecological goods to meet people's ever-growing demands for a beautiful environment.
13、坚持走中国特色强军之路，全面推进国防和军队现代化 to ensure a strong military building with Chinese characteristics and to promote modernization of the national defense and armed forces
确保到二〇二〇年基本实现机械化，信息化建设取得重大进展，战略能力有大的提升。力争到二〇三五年基本实现国防和军队现代化，到本世纪中叶把人民军队全面建成世界一流军队。
By the year 2020, mechanization will be basically achieved, with IT application coming a long way and strategic capabilities seeing a big improvement. The modernization of the national defense and armed forces should be basically completed by 2035. The people's armed forces will be fully transformed into world-class military by the mid-21st century
14、坚持“一国两制”，推进祖国统一 “One Country, Two Systems” policy and reunification of China
我们坚决维护国家主权和领土完整，绝不容忍国家分裂的历史悲剧重演。我们绝不允许任何人、任何组织、任何政党、在任何时候、以任何形式、把任何一块中国领土从中国分裂出去！
we stands firm in safeguarding China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and will never allow the historical tragedy of national division to repeat itself. We will never allow anyone, any organization, or any political party, at any time or in any form, to separate any part of Chinese territory from China!
15、坚持和平发展道路，推动构建人类命运共同体 to commit to peaceful development and to establish a community of shared future for mankind
中国决不会以牺牲别国利益为代价来发展自己，也决不放弃自己的正当权益，任何人不要幻想让中国吞下损害自身利益的苦果。中国奉行防御性的国防政策。中国发展不对任何国家构成威胁。中国无论发展到什么程度，永远不称霸，永远不搞扩张。
China will never pursue development at the expense of others' interests and it will never give up its legitimate rights and interests. No one should expect China to swallow anything that undermines its interests. China pursues a defensive national defense policy and remains firm in pursuing an independent foreign policy of peace. China's development does not pose a threat to any other country. China never seeks hegemony, expansion.
