The leaders of the Democratic People'sRepublic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) held a successfulmeeting today. They reached important consensus and issued a joint declarationon improving inter-Korean relations, easing military tension on the KoreanPeninsula and advancing the realization of denuclearization and long-termstability of the Peninsula. The positive outcomes of the summit are conduciveto promoting reconciliation and cooperation between the two sides, upholdingpeace and stability on the Peninsula and advancing the political settlementprocess of the Peninsula issue. China welcomes it and extends itscongratulations.

朝韩同属一个民族，中方一贯支持朝韩双方通过对话协商建立相互信任，改善彼此关系。这符合双方和本地区共同利益，也是国际社会共同期待。我们希望并相信朝韩双方能够落实好此次领导人会晤共识，持续推进和解与合作。希望有关各方保持对话势头，合力推动半岛无核化和半岛问题政治解决进程。中方愿为此继续发挥积极作用。

The DPRK and the ROK belong to the samenation. China always supports the two sides in building up mutual trust andimproving their relations through dialogue and consultation. This is in theinterests of the two sides and the region, and in line with the sharedaspiration of the international community. We hope and believe that the DPRKand the ROK will follow through on the consensus reached between the twoleaders at this summit and continue to advance reconciliation and cooperation.We hope that the relevant parties will maintain the momentum for dialogue andwork together to promote the denuclearization of the Peninsula and thepolitical settlement process of the Peninsula issue. China stands ready tocontinue to play its positive role to this end.
